Hi I’m Liz and I’m Janice - we are dietitians and we are the Meal Makeover Moms.

Today we’re going to do a little makeover of macaroni and cheese. What kid doesn’t like mac & cheese? We’re gonna show you a couple of things you can do to up the nutrition.

“And I’ll tell you kids are hooked on mac & cheese and quite often it is just white pasta lots of butter and not much more. And so what we’re gonna do is make a whole wheat mac & cheese and if that freaks your kids out don’t do the whole wheat mac& cheese. Use all natural products for sure you wanna be able to pronounce all the ingredients and then - umm - once the pasta- once you drain the pasta, you’re gonna make your cheese sauce.”

“Ok instead of 2 tblspns of butter we’re gonna use 2 tablespoons of Canola oil. It still gives the macaroni a nice creamy consistency. Plus you’re going to get some nice Omega 3 fats and it will be lower in saturated fat. Here we go.”

Milk - instead of whole milk use low fat and that’s 4 tablespoons.”
