HEALTHY COOKING: Sweet & Hearty Beef Stew Pt.2

Two pounds of stew beef.

And then, a bag of baby carrots poured in right on top.
Now for some flavour. We want to add tomato sauce. We’ve got a little bit of cedar vinegar, just two baby spoons. This will hit a flavour.
Okay, and my favourite, Maple syrup. This is pure maple syrup, and adds a really nice sweetness to the stew.
It get’s like sweet. Let’s face it. This is a third cup. So not too much. And this is my favourite. Salt.
*giggle*
This is kosher salt. This is not regular salt. You can use kosher salt or just regular table salt, about half a teaspoon. And we’re done. We’re going to cover it.
That was, I think that was quite a bit less than 5 minutes actually.
Yes. And we’re going to cook this on low for about six hours, but we’re not going to stand here and wait for it to cook.
Yeah. It would be boring.
This is a really great recipe when you’re cooking for a crowd. And a lot of people, when they’re cooking for a crowd, tend to keep food sitting on the counter for hours, and you don’t want to do that. The FDA says no more than 2 hours at room temperature, because you don’t want bacteria to grow. So, be sure to get leftovers in the fridge. I like to use shallow plastic containers. Just get them in there for a quick cool down, and then you can enjoy those safe leftovers later. To finish the stew, we whisk three tablespoons of corn starch with three tablespoons of cold water, and add it to the stew to thicken the sauce. Finally, we toss in a cup of peas.
The great thing about slow cooker is, the kids come home and they smell this, because it’s been cooking all day.
So now that she’s home, let’s see what my daughter Caroline thinks.
Its good.
Another fast, and easy meal makeover success.
